1. In Defense of Bats (K-5) We will be putting bats on trial in your classroom! See if they are as guilty as people think they are. This program follows the harrowing tale of what bats being accused of and why. Your class will help debunk the myths surrounding these mysterious creatures! Program includes a hilarious costume dress-up, props, games and more! Fee: $5/student + GST (minimum $131.25 charge) . PLOs covered
2. Who Gives a Hoot? (K-5) This prop talk and slide show about the natural history of B.C.'s owls is our most popular program. Learn, among other things, how owls can hear in 3D, and why they are some of the most deadliest hunters in nature! The class will also enjoy learning to speak owl! 3. Just How Big is a Blue Whale Anyway? (K-5) This program involves the use of an 87 foot long inflatable Blue Whale model and requires the use of your gymnasium. There will be plenty of hands-on experiences with "Bluemongous". This program begins with a marine mammals game show and gives students an opportunity to appreciate how big these once common mammals really are! Fee: Fee: $5/student + GST (minimum $131.25 charge). 4. Squids in the Hall (4-12) If you're a sucker for a good time, and want to learn all about the most intelligent group of invertebrates, the Cephalopods, then this program is for you. We describe what a cephalopod is in relation to other molluscs, and then take a look at some of our local species. Giant Squid and the world's largest Octopus live in the waters of BC, and we'll bring them to life for your class. Participate in a group dissection of store-bought squid and then learn the art of calamari cooking (and eating). Fun for big and little squids! 4. Life in a Log (K-3) Bring the forest alive right in your classroom! Learn about what makes a forest healthy and why dead, fallen trees are so important to our ecosystem! Program includes a chocolate log cake which your class will decorate with candy animals as they discuss how each of them uses the log as a resource. Cake is served at the end of the program!
