Goldstream Winter- Eagles

Each winter 200 or more Bald Eagles gather in the Goldstream Estuary to feed off the carcasses of spawned-out salmon. Though the eagles spend most of their time in the Quiet Zone, they are readily visible from the Nature House. This spectacle is a great opportunity to teach your class about these majestic birds of prey.

This eagle season we are happy to have enough funding from the Goldstream Chums Program to make our Eagle Programs Minimum $50 Donation.

These 1 1/4 -hour school programs run Tues-Thurs, from December 10th, 2012 to mid - January.  Check out the program descriptions below, then register online or contact us directly.

Eddie Eagle & the Estuary (K-7)
This 1 to 1½ hour program lets younger children discover the story of the eagles at Goldstream with an over-sized storybook (½ hour story-time, plus interactive presentation and time for eagle-viewing after). The infamous Eddie Eagle (we're pretty sure he's no relation to the ski-jumper) will talk about how the estuary has changed since he was an eaglet! We'll also look at some of the things that make birds, especially eagles, so different from other animals. The inside story-time is followed by an opportunity to view the eagles in action!

Cost: $50.00 Minimum Donation

Not All Raptors are Dinosaurs (4-7)
This 1 1/4-hour program introduces children to the Birds of Prey (Raptors) of British Columbia. Discover the true definition of raptor. Specimens of most of our diurnal birds of prey will be on display and each major group will be discussed in relation to their habitat, prey and unique adaptations. The program will include activities that help explain these special adaptations. We will discuss important issues such as: endangered species, resource management and proper wildlife viewing etiquette.

Cost: $50.00 Minimum Donation
