1. Beneath the Waves: (grade 2-12)
Extensive eelgrass beds and a sandy beach provide habitat for thousands of fish. This program will look at how these habitats are important to everything from migrating birds to Orca Whales. A beach seine, where the students catch up to 20 different kinds of fish and invertebrates, finishes the program so everyone should be prepared to get wet. Wear gumboots/sandals and bring shorts and a towel! Fee: $5.00/student plus GST (Minimum charge $140.00)
If you're a sucker for a good time, and want to learn all about the most intelligent group of invertebrates, the Cephalopods, then this program is for you. We describe what a cephalopod is in relation to other molluscs, and then take a look at some of our local species. Giant Squid and the world's largest Octopus live in the waters of BC, and we'll bring them to life for your class. Participate in a group dissection of store-bought squid and then learn the art of calamari cooking (and eating). Fun for big and little squids! ($6/student plus GST- $168.00 minimum charge).
Bamberton has extensive areas of sand flats, and pools on the beach that are exposed at low tide. It is also known as the best beach for seeing moon snails! This program explains how tides work and how they affect the plants and animals. Students will learn about the different adaptations needed to survive in the intertidal zone in a hilarious costume dress-up and then explore the shores for themselves! Everyone should be prepared to get wet. Wear Gumboots/sandals and shorts and bring extra clothes and a towel! Fee: $5.00/student plus GST ($140.00 minimum charge).
