Island Sleepovers


For an extra-memorable field trip this year, your class can come out to the Park for a fun and educational sleepover!  We offer four different sleepover options in our parks throughout Vancouver Island.

Night Eyes  (grades 2-8)

South Island: Goldstream Provincial Park

Mid Island: Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park, Moorecroft Camp

North Island: Miracle Beach Provincial Park

Our most popular sleepover features a Night Walk to look for bats and owls, an owl pellet dissection and a chance to learn how to talk like an owl! Groups can sleep in the Goldstream Nature House.

Sleeping with Salmon  (grades 2-8)

South Island: Goldstream Provincial Park

Offered during the salmon run (late October through November). Make a salmon print pilowcase, go for a night walk along the Goldstream River, and learn about First Peoples and Salmon.

Mid Island: Newcastle Island Marine and Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park
North Island: MIracle Beach Provincial Park

Find out just how big a blue whale really is, conduct a squid dissection, and sneak a peak at the ocean night life with our special night lights program while camping in a group site, or sleeping in the Newcastle Island Pavilion.

Our newest and most exciting sleepover program asks the question, does your class have what it takes to be Survivors? Find out when you "strand" your class for this challenging, active, and hands on program. Survivors is available for students in grades 3 through 11 as a one or two night program. Accomodations vary with location.

Night Eyes

Grade 2 PLO’s: Science - Classify/Compare familiar animals according to similarities and differences in appearance, behavior, and life cycles- Describe some changes that affect animals- Describe the ways in which animals are important to other living things in the environment.- Use their senses to interpret observations.- Infer the probable outcome of an event or behavior based on observations.- Explain why water, air, and soil are important for living things.Physical Education – Move through defined space while maintaining control (walking blind-folded).- Change level of body position while maintaining control (e.g. high, medium, low)Language Arts – Ask and respond to questions before, during, and after viewing or listening.- Identify specific details in communication in response to tasks or questions.- Listen actively, responding verbally and non-verbally.- Seek opinions and consider the responses of others.- Demonstrate a willingness to support others by offering compliments or encouragement.
